THE TALKING CURE pdf free download. It was Bertha Pappenheim, Josef Breuer’s celebrated “Fräulein Anna O.” of Studies on Hysteria (1893-1895), who coined the term “talking cure” to describe the magical power of language to relieve mental suffering. Described by her physician as possessing unusual poetic and imaginative gifts, the 21-
year old woman entered therapy in 1880 shortly after falling ill. During the following months she developed severe hysterical symptoms that today might be diagnosed as schizophrenia: frightening hallucinations of black snakes, near-total physical paralysis of arms and legs, and major disturbances of speech and sight.
